Guide To Resell Rights

This is a free guide to resell rights. If you don't fully understand the difference between Basic Resell Rights, Master Resell Rights and Private Label Rights please read on.

There are many downloadable products such as ebooks, tutorials, web templates, graphics, scripts and pieces of software that come with some form of resell rights. It is essential to know about the different types of rights when buying and reselling these digital products.

You should never assume that you can resell an item simply because you downloaded it. Downloadable products are subject to copyright laws in just the same way that other physical products such as DVDs and CDs are.

Here is an explanation of the three basic types of resell rights along with some further information.

Basic Resell Rights

With basic resell rights you are allowed to sell an item to as many buyers as you like but the resell rights do not pass onto your buyer.

This essentially means that you can sell the product but your buyers can not.

Products with Basic Resell Rights should be marketed to end users rather than resellers.

Master Resell Rights (MRR)

With Master Resell Rights you are allowed to sell an item to as many buyers as you like. You can normally choose if you want to pass the Master Resell Rights or just Basic Resell Rights onto the buyer.

This means that your buyer will be able to resell the item.

Products with Master Resell Rights can be marketed to both end users and resellers.

Private Label Rights (PLR)

With private label resell rights you are allowed to sell an item to as many buyers as you like. You are also allowed to edit the product in some way.

This normally means adding a link to your website to the product or perhaps putting your name as the author.

Products with Private Label Rights can be marketed to both end users and resellers.

Rebranding Rights

With rebranding rights you are allowed to replace the author's links with your own. Rebranding Rights are usually offered in addition to normal resell rights.

Limitations

If you are planning to resell an item you should always check the rights included. There may be limitations on the minimum and maximum price you can sell the item at. Often the rights will set a "recommended" price range.

There may also be limitations on selling the item on auction sites such as ebay. Other limitations can mean you can't give the item away for free or offer it as part of a package without special permission.

If you are in any doubt ask the seller about limitations before buying.
